House Tour

Solhemhuset

Henni Gavatin, artist and creator behind @solhemhuset, lives with her family in a light green 1930s house just outside Stockholm that has gradually grown into a vibrant and ever-evolving home. Through color, craftsmanship and a deeply personal approach to design, her home has become both a living canvas and a place where creativity and beauty are part of everyday life.

With a background in UX design, Henni previously worked with structure, storytelling and user experience. Over time, a desire to create more with her hands led her in a new direction. Today, she focuses fully on her creative work, creating handmade artworks, tufted rugs and interior pieces inspired by color, materials and character. Her home has naturally evolved into both a studio and a place where new ideas come to life.

A Home Shaped Over Time

Henni’s home is in constant becoming, with something new taking shape at almost any time. It might be a tufted rug, hand-painted details around a doorway, a mural slowly unfolding or a piece of furniture finding new life. The house is never static, instead it feels alive, layered and deeply personal.

Vintage finds, handmade objects and pieces filled with memories live side by side. A flea market treasure may sit next to something recently painted, or a vase from her parents’ hometown in southern Iran. She is drawn to warm tones, natural materials and patterns with movement and character, always aiming to create rooms that feel inviting, soulful and lived in.

"For me beauty in everyday life often comes from creating something with my hands. Our home is never completely finished and I like it that way. It means there is always room for new ideas, small changes and moments of inspiration."

A Layered and Expressive Home

Henni’s style is intuitive, expressive and deeply personal, shaped over time rather than defined by rules. She is drawn to rooms with character and atmosphere, where color, texture and pattern work together to create a sense of warmth and balance.

Interiors are allowed to evolve naturally through experimenting and rearranging. By mixing vintage pieces with handmade elements and contemporary design, she creates an environment that feels intentional and full of life, where every detail contributes to a larger story.

Wallpaper as A Starting Point

Wallpaper often becomes the starting point in Henni’s rooms. It sets the tone and creates a foundation that she continues to build on through color, textiles, ceramics and handmade details. The pattern often guides the color palette.

When styling around Sandberg wallpapers, Henni begins with the colors and the feeling within the pattern. She observes which hues stand out and repeats them in textiles, cushions, ceramics and smaller decorative details throughout the room.

She often combines softer elements with more graphic patterns to create a sense of balance and comfort. Her aim is for the wallpaper to feel natural within the room, as an integrated and effortless part of everyday life.
