House Tour @snickargladjen

We had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with the inspirational creator Johanna Berglund, known as @snickargladjen, during the design process of her beautiful wallpaper, Inger. We visited her stunning garden and home and instantly fell in love.

Let’s get to know them together.

Johanna lives with her family in a beautiful old house, Prästgården in Jäla, where she builds, gardens, decorates, and works towards becoming self-sufficient in food.

"I would say that my middle name would be "Create" if I had been able to choose. I am driven by the desire to create and be creative—everything from making a cozy home for my family to producing food from scratch in our self-sufficiency project."

Creativity has shaped Johanna's entire life, and she remembers how, as a child, she would often rearrange her room and how much she enjoyed the sense of change. She even had an extra windowsill for all the cuttings she collected.

She explains how she thrives and enjoys the process of planning and creating—the journey itself. The final result isn't as important to her. She admits that she starts many things but finishes a bit fewer. That's where her husband, Kristoffer, comes in. He usually makes sure that the results are both completed and well done. "We're the perfect duo," Johanna says.

We asked Johanna to describe her interior design style: "I don't have a specific style. I care very little about trends. I want a cozy, inviting home but with balance. It shouldn't have too few items so that it feels bare, but not too many to make it cluttered and impractical. When I decorate, I trust my eye. I test, rearrange, and test again until I'm satisfied."

For someone who hasn't seen my home, I would say it leans towards a rustic country style. The walls are a mix of patterned wallpapers and solid colors, a blend of old and new. It's not overly colorful, but accents are added where I feel they fit and a bit according to the season.

Johanna always has a clear vision of how she wants a room to look and feel before she starts. One of her tips is to save lots of images. Look at them, then repeat the same process, but narrow it down to a maximum of 10 images. That's when you can usually pinpoint what you're looking for and how you want a room to feel. After that, it's time to focus on the details. Which wallpaper will you choose? What color will you pick from the wallpaper for the trims and woodwork? What textiles and furniture will fit?

We asked Johanna a few questions about her favorite wallpapers and how she chooses them for her home:

What is important to you when choosing wallpaper?

Just one thing—love at first sight. I know exactly how I work; if I don't love the wallpaper immediately, I won't learn to love it later either. I often need to feel the texture of the wallpaper and see it on a wall before I make a decision.

Another important aspect is the feel of adjoining rooms. A wallpaper should be just as beautiful on its own as when paired with a neighboring room. This can be tricky to get right sometimes. In those cases, I settle on wallpapering or painting the adjoining room in a solid color until I find the perfect match.

What are your favorite wallpapers?

Many! But my absolute favorites are Benjamin, Sage Green, which we have in our living room, and Clara, Oat, which I haven't yet found a place for in the house—so I'm toying with the idea of building a home just for it! And, of course, I absolutely love both mine and Evelina's wallpapers, Inger and Ulla.

How do you create a more beautiful everyday life?

I try to move a little more slowly. Whether picking a bouquet in the morning sun or sitting in the field with my animals. For me, beauty lies in presence—seeing and appreciating what's around me. Now that autumn is approaching, and I can't find peace through the garden and growing season, it's more about lighting candles and creating coziness. It's simply about embracing a slower pace.
