Pattern Stories

Eken

With Pattern Stories, we embrace a specific wallpaper design and tell the story behind the pattern. We want to show the craftsmanship that leads to the finished wallpaper. We call this Swedish Wallpaper Art.

A symbol of longevity

This time we tell the story of the wonderful pattern Eken (the Oak). The majestic oak holds a special place in our hearts at Sandberg, as we proudly carry the oak leaf in our logo, a symbol of endurance and timeless strength. This tree is especially dear to us, and so we wish to honour the king of the forest and let ourselves be embraced by the oak's magical canopy. It is from stories like these that we create our patterns and collections, what we call Swedish wallpaper art.

Many years ago, the Sandberg family planted an oak outside our factory. Oaks grow in their own unhurried rhythm and enjoy a long lifespan. Over the years, this tree has grown and matured, just as Sandberg Wallpaper has, standing tall with its enchanting crown and rooted strength.

"The expression of the pattern carries a subtle nod to antique woven tapestries, and among its colorways are hues that blend in beautifully and others that make a confident statement."

The craft behind the art

The original artwork was painted in gouache, an opaque medium that lends a softly stylised character, perfectly aligned with the tactile quality achieved through the final surface-printed technique. The pattern was created by our talented designer, Karolina Kroon.
