Peaceful bedroom in a beautiful turn-of-the-century house

Sometimes we get extra inspired by a wallpapered room, especially if it has an interior rich in contrasts with striking colours, patterns and materials. Often the person behind a beautiful space has interesting stories and tips to share. Annelie, who runs the Instagram account @solhem_ett_sekelskifteshus is an excellent example of such a person. Annelie, who is an expert in combining modern interior design with older charm, has brought with her much of the home’s interior design from the years she lived in China. Now she lives with her family in Vikingstad outside Linköping in a beautiful turn-of-the-century house. Annelie has wallpapered her bedroom with our wallpaper Raphaël Green, and we have taken the opportunity to ask her some questions about interior design.

Who are you?

My name is Annelie, and I am 52 years old, married, mother of 2 teenagers and a royal poodle. I am a housewife, witty, spontaneous and goal-oriented. For eight years, I lived with my family in Beijing, China. We have brought a lot of furniture and accessories back from our time there. I have been interested in interior design since I was little. I love going to flea markets and auctions. Buying a piece of furniture and then giving it a facelift with the help of a bit of renovation is excellent.

Tell us a little about your home.

Our home is a turn-of-the-century house from 1920 of 250 sqm, a very friendly and bright house. We are the fourth owners, and when we moved in, the house had an 80’s style, but original details such as roof, floor, doors, windows and tiled stoves remained. The garden is also original. We have seven fireplaces, and they all work, we have renovated the whole house for twenty years. I continue to restore and refine what can always be better, but I stick to the house’s character and year.

How did you go about choosing wallpaper?

It was the wallpaper that chose me, Raphaël appeared in my Instagram feed, and as soon as I saw it, it said click. I knew I just had to wallpaper it.

What are your best interior design tips?

  • Stick to three colours in one room and continue with these to the next room so that the whole home is eventually bound together. In this way, a beautiful flow will appear.
  • Mix hard and soft textures and do not be afraid to combine new and old.
  • Make small decorative corners with three ornaments, never with even numbers.
